WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROI'I':
FRED WAKEFIELD, ACTING CHIEF OF POLICE
SUBJECT: USED VEHICLE PURCHASE
I II I I
Recommendation:
Receive and file.
Background:
In this year's 1988-89 budget, we were scheduled the replacement
of one unmarked police vehicle. Utilizing the "Purchase of Used
Vehicle and Equipment" policy from 1982, I received informal bids
on a 1988 Pontiac. We chose Pontiac due to our good past
performance record with that particular vehicle. We talked to
four Pontiac Dealers and the results are as follows (blue book
$13,270):
i ·
Executive Pontiac, 16 Auto Center Drive, Tustin, 730-6800.
Retail Price $13,100
Tax 786
Total $13,886
·
Suburban Pontiac, 17636 S. Bellflower, Bellflower, the SSE
Deluxe Bonneville model.
Retail Price $22,500
Tax 1 , 350
Total $23 .850
(They had nothing else comparable)
Bob Hix Pontiac, 2480 Harbor, Costa Mesa, 549-4300.
Retail Price $15,000
Ta~ 900
Total $15, 900
·
Bob Longpre Pontiac, 13600 Beach Blvd. , Westminster,
892-66651. (They had nothing comparable.)
Pursuant to the above policy, on November 21, 1988, with your
approval, the vehicle was purchased from Executive Pontiac. They
are new to our Tustin Auto Center and besides quoting the lowest
price, seemed very anxious to serve the city. It was a pleasure
to be ab~tilize their services.
