FROM:
SUBJECT:
WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF INTERLOCKING
CONCRETE PAVER SIDEWALK ON EL CAMINO REAL AND MAIN STREET
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council, at their meeting of December 19, 1988, award a
contract for subject project to Neff' Contracting Corporation in the
amount of $46,277 and to authorize a supplemental 1988-89 budget
appropriation in the amount of $47,300 from the Beautification Fund.
BACKGROUND:
This project provides for the reconstruction of the interlocking concrete
paver sidewalk at locations where settlement of the pavers causes
tripping hazard to the public.
·
Three contractors obtained plans and specifications for the project;
however, only one bid was submitted and opened on November 22, 1988. The
sole bidder was Neff Contracting Corporation of Anaheim with a bid of
$46,277. Placement of interlocking pavers is specialty work and few
contractors are proficient in this type of construction. The low bidder
is experienced in interlocking pavers and has done similar reconstruction
projects for other cities.
Currently, there is no funding budgeted for this work due to the recent
decision not to utilize departmental operations fun. ding (sidewalk and
curb repair account) for the paver repairs. It has been determined that
adequate funding is available in the Beautification Fund for this
project.
