SUBJECT:
WILLIAFI HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARllqENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
STATUS REPORT - FORGER RESIDENCE OF WATER SERVICE MANAGER
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
A single-story three bedroom structure located at 245 East Main Street served as
the residence of the Tustin Water Works Water Superintendent until November 1980
when the City purchased the private water system. After the purchase of the Tustin
Water Works by the City, thi-s structure continued to be used as a residence by the
Water Service Manager (same person as the Tustin Water Works Superintendent) until
September 1987, a few months after his retirement in July 1987.
Currently, the structure is vacant and is not being utilized by any full-time use.
The structure has been secured/locked and is routinely inspected for any vandalism
or forced entry. The City is fortunate in that the structure is located on the
premises of the water plant facility .and has a high visibility of usa during the
five-day work week and usually a fair amount of activity on Saturdays by the Water
staff.
No definite uses for the structure have been identified as of this time, but some
of the possibilities are identified as follows:
1. Sale of structure and removal from site.
2. Demolition of structure.
3. Use as a City building for expansion of various departments.
4. Use as a City building for community events/programs.
Items 3 and 4 would most likely require building modification to bring the
structure in conformance with current building codes.
In the event additional information on this item is required, please advise.
