OLIVE TREES - LANDSCAPE MEDIANS
At a recent City Council meeting a concern was raised about the olive
trees along Newport Avenue and Red Hill Avenue bearing and dropping
olives. This is, in fact, a messy and unsightly event.
Over the past years, Staff has utilized the spray which is applied at
the critical stage of when the tree is blooming to minimize/prevent the
bearing of fruit. With the closeness of these trees to the adjacent
commercial and residential areas, Staff has elected to prune the olive
trees in lieu of spraying over the past 6-8 years. As evidenced by the
dropping of the olives, these trees along both Newport and Red Hill
avenues were overlooked this past pruning season.
Ail olive trees will be re-programmed for the trimming at the proper
time in the future which will also provide an improved/manicured
appearance.
