SUBJECT: JAMBOREE ROAD EXTENSION THROUGH MCAS/RELOCATION OF
HELICOPTER HEAVY LIFT OPERATION
The first phase of the Jamboree Road extension through MCAS has
recently been completed at a project cost of $2,000,000. This phase of
work included the relocation of MCAS Helicopter Heavy Lift Operation
from the Tustin Base to the Camp Pendleton Military Reservation.
This work included the construction of a 600 foot diameter heavy lift
pad complete with lighting and all required utilities, and over a mile
of two lane roadway between an existing base road and the lift
facility. This work has been completed by the Irvine Company as the
~ontract administrator .and will be paid .for by each of the
articipating agencies of City of Irvine (42%), Irvine company (36%)
and City of Tustin (18%) per a previously approved agreement. City of
Irvine has front-ended the cost of this initial phase of work until
such time the construction funding sources have been finalized.~
The completion of this phase will permit! the roadway construction phase
to proceed once the Moffett Trenches/Burn pit cleanup operation is
completed and final funding has been secured.
An aerial photograph delineating this facility will be on display at
the City Council Chambers on March 7, 1.988 for the Councils reference.
