HomeMy WebLinkAboutNB 5 TREE REMOVALS 03-21-88.DATE: NEW BUSINESS ::~. ~,. ~ NO. 5 ~CH 16, 1988 TO: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVALS RECOMMENDATION: That City Council approve the Public Works Departments' recommendation on tree removals as shown on the attached exhibit. BACKGROUND: The attached exhibit is a consolidation of requests which have been received from various property owners regarding trees within the public right-of-way. In all cases, adjacent property owners have been surveyed and the results are so indicated. Ail trees will be removed and replaced by City crews. Replacement will be with a tree of acceptable species from the City's approved list. Replace with a 15 gallon Magnolia. 90% yes - 10% no reponses from neighbors. Remove and replace. 17441 Amaganset, Ficus tree was cut back heavy, has possible roots in the sewer along with the possibility of future cement damage. 40% yes-60% no response. Remove and replace with slow growing tree. 14701 Evanston Circle, Ficus tree with surface roots, some damage to the sidewalk, remove replace with Crepe Myrtle. 60% yes - 40% no response. 13501 Falmouth, Ficus tree, misshapen and planted off center near the sidewalk, has new cement with no damage as yet. 40% yes- 60% no response. Remove and replace with a slow to moderate growing tree. 17~7 Mitchell Ave., Seven Silk Oaks, these are not on the approved tree list and are located below power lines which need topping once a year. Remove and replace with Master Planned Stone Pines. 100% yes. 14382 Cloverbrook, Ficus tree with sidewalk damage and curb damage. Surface roots creating a tripping hazard. Remove and replace with a 15 gallon Magnolia. 60% yes - 40% no response. 13411 Falmouth, Ficus tree with massive surface roots, damage, to curb, gutter and sidewalk. Remove and replace with a slow growing tree. 60% yes - 40% no response. 17731 Amaganset, Ficus tree with curb and sidewalk damage, two very large surface roots. This is a 75% mature tree and future damage to the repaired cement areas is likely. Remove and replace with either a Crepe Myrtle or Magnolia. 40% yes - 60% no response. 2342 Ana Tree Cr.', Carrotwood tree with slight sidewalk damage from surface roots which should be cut along with foliage, no removal as this area is Master Planned for Carrotwoods. 14852 Bridgeport Rd., Ficus tree in conflict with two Sycamores and there is cement damage. Remove and do not replace tree due to the limited planting space. 60% yes o 40% no response. 14261 Heatherfield, Rusty Leaf Fig, not on approved tree list, due to the extensive surface roots growing and'the dropping of non-eatable fruit, remove and replace with Stone Pine or Canary Island Pine which is the new Master Planned tree for Mitchell from Redhill to Browning. 100% yes. Exhibit to Memo dated, 2/29/88 · page 2 of 2 17501 Parker Drive, Two Ficus trees with large roots on the surface which have caused damage to the curb to the extent there is wa~er standing in the gutter and four other roots are a tripping hazard. Remove and replace with slow to moderate growing trees. 40% yes- 10% no and 50% no response. 14592 Deerfield, Orchid tree created a 6 inch raise in the sidewalk. It is a misshapened tree due to storm damage, and drops berries. Remove and replace with slow to moderate growing tree. 10% yes - 90% no response. 14502 Westfall, Ficus tree that is 65% mature with massive surface roots and cement is lifted 3-4 inches on a 2 year oid sidewalk. Remove and replace with a slow growing tree. 100% yes. 14722 Mimosa Lane, Ficus tree is 75% mature with surface roots that will cause more damage to cement in the future. Remove and replace with slow to moderate growing tree. 40% yes - 60% no response. 1871 Hampshire Rd., Jacaranda tree, on Walnut side, has been heavily trimmed in the last 6 months and now has-some sucker growth, planted to close to the wall in a small planter under high power lines. Needs excessive maintenance. Remove and no replacement. 40% yes - 60% no response. 14432 Deerfield, Ficus tree, 50% mature with moderate damage to cement areas, surface roots have damaged irrigation system. Remove and replace with a slow growing tree. 20% yes - 80% no response. 13501 Falmouth, Ficus tree, is small and misshap&n within 4 feet of driveway apron. There are some surface roots, a new sidewalk that has not been damaged yet. Remove and replace with a Magnolia tree which is the Master Planned tree for this area.
