SUBJEOT: RESOLUTION REQUESTING OCTC TO ALLOCATE FAU FUNDS FOR
JAMBOREE ROAD (FILE NO. 2195)
RECOMMENDATION
That the city Council adopt a resolution requesting the Orange County
Transportation Commission (OCTC) to include within the Federal Aid Urban
(FAU) program the improvement of Jamboree Road between Barranca Parkway
and Edinger Avenue.
BACKGROUND
The extension of Jamboree Road through the Tustin Marine Corps Air
Station is one of this County's high priority projects. This missing
ink between Barranca Parkway and Edinger Avenue is expected to carry
.0,000 vehicles a day by 2000 AD. It will provide significant relief
for both Red Hill Avenue in Tustin and Culver Drive in Irvine. These
two cities and the Irvine Company have entered into a cooperative
agreement for this project with funding shares allocated as follows:
City of Tustin 18%
City of Irvine 46%
The Irvine Company 36%
The total cost of this project is estimated to exceed $20 million of
which about $12 million is construction cost and $8 million right-of-way
cost.
ANALYSIS
OCTC is calling
funds county wide.

for applications for allocation of $6 million in FAU
Our recommendation is to request $4 million for
a joint application from the Cities of Tustin and
While rehabilitation projects have the highest priority in OCTC's
program, gap closures and multi-agency projects are also high priorities
and both of these are applicable to our Jamboree project.
e local matching requirement for this program is 25%.
our favor is the fact that the local match would be
~onstruction cost alone and 80% of the total project cost.
