WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRONE RECORDING EQUIPMENT
The following information is provided at Councilman Prescott's
request. Ail of our incoming phone lines are recorded 24 hours a
day by a model 5500, 30 channel Dictaphone. The unit was
purchased in early 1987 and has a service life of 10 years. It
can record phone conversations for 30 separate incoming phone
calls. The information is stored on a 24-hour tape and kept for
evidentiary purposes for a set amount of time. On occasion, due
to unforeseen equipment failure, we miss a phone call.
In the situation in question, we had a bad spot on a new tape.
The tape has since been replaced and in all subsequent tests, the
Dictaphone unit has performed as is required.
