WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY )IANAGER
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTHENT, ENGINEERING DIVISION
DECLARATION OF SURPLUS AND AUTHORIZATION TO SELL UNIT 3402
RECOMMENDATION:
Request the Tustin City Council, at their regular meeting of August 18, 1986, to
declare Police Department Patrol Unit 3402 as surplus and authorize staff to sell
this unit as salvage.
BACKGROUND:
Police Department Patrol Unit 3402, a 1983 Chevrolet Malibu, was involved in a
traffic accident. The accident "totalled" the vehicle. Unit 3402 was due to be
replaced in fiscal 1985; however, the Police Department decided to keep this unit
in the fleet for another year, therefore, the full replacement value of the
vehicle is in the Vehicle Leasing Fund. This unit has now been replaced with a
1986 Chevrolet Caprice via the Vehicle Replacement Fund.
In order for the City to dispose of City equipment, Council must declare such
equipment as surplus. Since the vehicle has been rendered "totalled", staff is
requesting that the vehicle be sold for its salvage value which is estimated to be
$650.00.
