DISCUSSION
In accordance with Section 9, paragraph (e) (ii), "annual regular rate
adjustment", of our existing agreement for the collection and
transportation of solid waste, the following increases have been
authorized, effective July 1, 1986.
1. A CPI weighted average basic rate increase
residential can service. (From $3.79 to $3.81).
2. A basic rate increase of 0.45% for commercial
(See attached revised Schedule A).
of 0.45% for
bin service.
To these basic rates the actual cost of County landfill fees will be
added. The residential rate is estimated to be $1.49 per unit per month;
commercial can $1.37 per unit per month; and the commercial bin service
varies from a low of $1.32 to $16.36 based on the bin size and frequency of
collection. The residential fees appear higher due to the anticipated use
of transfer stations, at a slightly higher fee, if available landfill sites
begin to discontinue operation.
By Cacing the solid waste collection fee on the tax roll the new rates are
2% less than last year for residential units; 4.7% less for commercial can
service and 4.3% greater for commercial bin service. The major increase to
our cost of solid waste collection occurs in the County landfill fees, of
t~ol.
