TIME EXTENSION FOR COI~LETION OF NEWPORT AVENUE TI~FFIC SIGNAL
MODIFICATIONS [F.A.U. #-MO15(002)]
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tustin City Council, at their meeting of September 15, 1986, approve a
time extension through September 30, 1986 for completion of the Newport Avenue
Traffic Signal Installations and Modifications, also known as F.A.U. Project No.
M-M016(O02).
BACKGROUND:
The contractor, Steiny and Co., Inc., has been diligently and effectively
prosecuting the work toward completion. A time extension is warranted and should
be granted for the following reasons:
1. Delays incurred resolving conflicts between new signal standards
and overhead power lines.
2. Increase in the scope of work from that shown on the plans and noted
in the specifications.
3. Time required for Edison Company to complete their plan review and
service authorization process.
4. Revisions/modifications in Edison Company service point locations
from those shown on the plans.
Currently, the contractor is at a standstill waiting for the Edison Company to
install new service meters at the various intersections. Edison Company
representatives have indicated that it will take 5-7 days to complete the process
once the authorization is issued. Foll6wing installation of the service meters,
the contractor should be able to complete the project within 7-10 days.
