HUSTON, CIl~ ~ANAGER COMMUNIllF AND ABMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTNENT FRONTIER PARK INFANT SWING RECOMMENDATION: Receive and file. BACKGROUND: At a recent Council meeting, David McMahon requested that the City Council install additional in~ant swings at Frontier Park. At the time, staff was certain that a new tot play apparatus was installed in 1984; however, staff was not sure if the apparatus had swings. Since that time, staff has confirmed that this play structure includes safety infant swings. This tot apparatus is less than fifty feet from where the previous swing set was located. This tot apparatus is very close to the former swing set, and it does include infant swings. As Council will recall, the Frontier Park neighbors were represented by a Mrs. Thomas, who requested that pre-school children have a play area designated especially for them. Council concurred, and in October 1983, the City Council appropriated $10,000. in order to design, construct and install a new pre-school play area in Frontier Park. This unbudgeted item was in response to those residents who had pre-school children, i.e., under five years old. The bid package for this play area specifically lists "two belt swings with infant bucket seats." Unless directed otherwise by the City Council, staff will not purchase another swing set. Royleen A.
