SUBJECT:

AUTHORIZATION TO REMOVE TREES AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS
RECOMMENDATION:
Request the Tustin City Council, at their meeting of October 22, 1986, authorize
staff to remove the trees at the following locations:
A. 14751Foxcroft Ficus
B. 17532 Medford Ficus
C. 13331 Coral Reef Silk Floss
D. 2002 Nantucket Ficus
E. 13432 Cindy Lane Ficus
BACKGROUND:
The resident at each of the aforementioned locations has requested in writing that
the City tree at' their address be removed. Staff physically evaluated the
condition of the tree at each address and determined the request valid. As
standard procedure, a questionnaire was provided to all neighbors that could be
visually impacted by the tree removal to ascertain if there were objections to the
removal. Majority responses for each address were affirmative for the proposed
removals.
Two issues should be noted: 1) the silk floss tree at 13331 Coral Reef is not on
the approved list of City trees; and, 2) the remaining trees listed are ficus
trees which pose the continual problem of surface roots that destroy the integrity
of existing sidewalk and curbs which pose a hazard to pedestrian traffic and is
costly to repair/replace.
The trees to be removed will be replaced with trees that blend aesthetically with
the particular neighborhood and present a lesser problem of infrastructure damage.
