BACKGROUND: Pursuant to a citizen request, the desirability of installing a stop sign at the .Sycamore/Alder intersection was evaluated. The criteria used in the evaluation centered primarily on a review of the area by the City Traffic Engineer, discussions with residents most affected by the stop sign, and a desire by staff to provide safe intersection operation/usage by vehicles and pedestrians. DISCUSSION: The intersection is situated in the center of a relatively long segment of Alder Lane. Since vehicular speeds are generally higher under this condition, and given the high usage of the intersection by children, it is appropriate to install a stop sign at this location.
