NOD 1 DATE: AUGUST 10, TO: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY M/UtAGER * FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUELJECT: REQUEST FOR STREET NAME CHANGE RECOMMENDATION: · Pleasure of the City Council. BACKGROUND: Staff has received a request from Ms. Jocelyn H. Edwards to change the name of Walnut Street between Newport Avenue and Orange Street to "Old Walnut." (Copy of request attached). Ms. Edwards' reasons f.or requesting the name change was to minimize confusion to drivers looking for Walnut Avenue which is located southerly of the I-5 Freeway. The City has received two other requests .for a street name change on this street, _~!th the latest previous request being in November, 1981. As a part of the name ,ange process, a questionnaire-type letter was sent to all affected residents on ,lnut Street. Each time the residents opposed any name change. DISCUSSION: In the event the City Council desires to change the street name from "Walnut Street" to "Old Walnut", it is suggested that staff once again be directed to poll the affected residents as to their desires prior to proceeding with any name change. It is also noted that Ms. Edwards' address is on 13811 Orange Street, and she would not be affected by the name change with respect to changing of personal records.
