SUBJECT:
WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
PUBLIC WORKS DEPART)lENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
REQUEST FOR Sll~EEY LIGHTING - "C" STREET
RECOMMENDATION:
For the City Council meeting of February 2, 1987.
Pleasure of the City Council.
BACKGROUND:
At a previous City Council meeting, staff was requested to study the feasibility
of installing street lighting along "C" Street between Main Street and Third
Street. The evaluation and cost estimates are based upon the installation of
5,800 lumen high pressure sodium vapor luminaires on marbelite standards with an
underground power feed.
DISCUSSION:
The attached sketch shows both the existing street lights (shown in yellow) and
the three proposed street lights (shown in blue). The two proposed lights on the
westerly side of "C" Street would be located just northerly of the school district
parking lot and just north of Main Street. The third proposed light would be
located on the common lot line between 325 and 335 "C" Street. This third light
would be 'located adjacent to the eucalyptus trees and would not be totallY
effective due to the heavy foilage of the eucalyptus trees.
The estimated cost for these street light installations is as follows:
Three street lights (two on west side of street and one on east side of street)
Underground conduit ............. 460 L.F. ~ $12.50 = $ 5,750.00
Marbelite street lights ......... 3 each @ $400.00 = 1,200.00
$ 6,950.00
Two street lights (on west side of street only)
Underground conduit ............. 415 L.F. @ $12.50 : $ 5,187.50
Marbelite street lights ......... 2 each 0 $400.00 : 800.00
$ 5,987.00
