TRAFFIC SIGI%AL TIMING (PEDESTRIAN PHASING)
INFORMATION REPORT
In December, 1986, the City Council requested staff to investigate the need to
modify the pedestrian phase of the traffic signal timing at both Newport Avenue at
Main Street and Newport Avenue at Bryan Avenue.
These intersections were reviewed by staff with the following modifications being
made.
Newport Avenue at Main Street
The pedestrian phase across Newport Avenue was increased from 18 seconds to 27
seconds. There were no changes made to the pedestrian phase across Main Street,
it will remain at 18 seconds.
Newport Avenue at Br~an Avenue
The pedestrian phase across Newport Avenue was increased from 18 seconds to 22
seconds. There were no changes made to the pedestrian phase across Bryan Avenue,
it will remain at 16 seconds.
Staff will continue to periodically monitor both intersections with respect to
pedestrian activity to determine if any further modifications are required.
