HUSTON, CITY MAtlAGER COMI~U#ITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT FOURTH OF dULY FIREiJORKS CONTRACT RECOMMEN DATI ON: Authorize the City Manager to sign an agreement, in the amount of $8,700 with the Pyro Spectacular Fireworks Company to provide a pyro-musical show for the Annual .Fourth of July Celebration. BACKGROUND: Planning is underway to produce another high quality Fourth of July Show for 1987. This year staff is recommending that the contract be awarded to Pyro Spectacular Fireworks Company. The proposal includes a twenty minute show, a narrated musical program and a sound system. Staff has worked with this company in the past and has been very pleased with the results. " Staff received proposals from two companies: Price Length of Show Pyro Spectaculars $8,700* 20 minutes San Diego Fireworks $8,800 20 minutes Oualit7 of Program Excellent - used for several years including lg86 show. Good - there were some safety and liability problems with the 1985 show. *If contract is signed prior to February 28, 1987. Price increases after that date and will be $9,200. Both companies will provide $1 million liability insurance and name the City as additionally insured. Staff recommends awarding the contract to Pyro Spectaculars. The Tustin Unified School District has again pledged cooperation; staff has received a confirmation for the use of Northrup Field and the School District Maintenance staff at no charge. Staff also recommends, due to the support given this event, that the School District again be a co-sponsor.
