~ECT: INFOR~TIO~L REPORT - HAIN S~EET SIDEWALK
AND DRIVEWAY REPLACEMENT
At their meeting of September 21, lg87, the City Council raised a concern
regarding the replacement of a private walk and driveway at 340 West Main
Street. Both the walk and portions of the driveway were placed adjacent to the
fractured edges rather than a sawcut edge.
Both the walk and driveway had numerous random cracking and areas of settlement.
The property owner, Mr. Young, was consulted prior to the placement of the new
concrete against the fractured edges and he was in complete concurrence with the
method of replacement. The remainder of the driveway is in deteriorated
condition and would require replacement over the the majority of its length,
which was not the intent of the public improvements contract.
Mr. Young has provided the City with a letter indicating his satisfaction with
the work that has been completed on his property at 340 West Main Street.
Staff will have photographs available at the City Council meeting if the Council
desires to review them.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
During the course of construction on Main Street, the City's
contractor, with the approval of the Project Engineer, Mr. Steve Worrall,
replaced some cracked and broken concrete at the front of my walk and
driveway at 340 Main Street.
The loose and broken material was removed and the new walk was
poured directly against the existing joint. This was discussed with
me beforehand and I said that would be acceptable.
The end result of this work is a significant improvement over
what was previously existing and I have no complaints with either the
method of construction or the finished product.
