,SUBJECT: Report on Request for Engineering Study of Amaganset Way
between Prospect Avenue and Yorba Street
BACKGROUND:
Pursuant to a request from City Council to the Engineering Division, an
engineering study was requested for the subject location. The study was to
address speed, intersection visibility, and signing since complaints were
made of motorists not observing the stop sign controls at Amaganset Way and
Acacia Drive.
EXISTING CONDITIONS:
Amaganset Way is a residential collector street which is located between
Yorba Street and Prospect Avenue. Presently, there is a three-way stop on
Amaganset at the intersection of Amaganset Way and Acacia Drive. Also, the
alignment of Amaganset Way in the westbound direction is on a slight curve
to the right. The curvature of the roadway and trees obstruct the
visibility of the stop sign located in the northeast quadrant.
EVALUATION:
A field review was made of the subject location to assess the existing
conditions with regard to speed, intersection visibility and signing. The
field observation indicated no speeding vehicles along Amaganset Way or
Acacia Drive. However, it was observed that the stop signs in the northwest
and northeast quadrants are not visible for large distances.
Therefore, it is recommended that all three stop signs be replaced with size
30" stop signs. In addition, it is recommended that "stop ahead" signs (W17
over W17A) be installed in advance of each stop sign to give advance notice
to motorists approaching the Amaganset Way/Acacia Drive intersection.
Further, it is recommended that the tree in front of house number 14591 on
Acacia Drive be trimmed to improve the visibility of the stop sign in the
northwest quadrant.
