BACKGROUND: Several months ago, the City Council requested Staff to investigate the cost for modifying the four E1 Camino Real signs to provide a message face on both sides of each of the signs which are located at: o the southwesterly and southeasterly corners of E1 Camino Real and First Street; and ° the northwesterly and southwesterly corners of E1 Camino Real and Newport Avenue. Staff's original estimate was approximately $800 per sign face for a duplicate of the message which currently exists, or a total of $3,200. DISCUSSION: Staff solicited bids for furnishing four additional sign faces with message, as well as for refurbishing the four existing sign faces, and was only able to attract one bid in the amount of $5,392 from Sonrise Graphics. Funding for this work was not included within the recently approved Redevelopment Agency budget for 1987-88. In the event the Agency desires to proceed with these sign modifications, it will be necessary to approve a supplemental budget appropriation for Fiscal Year 1987-88 in the amount of $5,400.
