WICK, ASSISTANT CITY ENGINEER AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR F.Y. '85-~86 SLURRY SEAL PROGRAM RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council, at their meeting of October 21, 1985, award the contract for subject project to Doug Martin Contracting Company, Inc., in the amount of $135,818.75. BACKGROUND: Subject project encompasses application of slurry seal coat on various residential streets and arterial highways throughout the City in accordance with the City's adopted Five Year F.Y. '84-'85 to F.Y. '88-'89 Street Maintenance Program. Because the slurry sealing is a process whereby traffic cannot be allowed on it until it is completely dry (which can take from two to six hours depending on the weather), the work on arterial highways and major streets will be performed on week-ends in order to minimize traffic congestion. Sealed bids for this work were opened on October 10, 1985 at 10:00 a.m. and were received as follows: Contractor Doug Martin Contracting Co. Inc. Roy Allan Slurry Seal Inc. Pavement Coatings Co. Valley Slurry Seal Co. Business Location La Habra, CA Laguna Niguel, CA Anaheim, CA Sacramento, CA Bid $135,818.75 160,526.16 165,925.91 191,845.00 The low bid is $62,934.66 or 32% below the engineer's estimate of $198,753.41.
