Sell the Ford 3600 at auction. BACKGROUND: The City bid a lawn mower for parks mowin§, and received three qualified bids; Bob Hicks Turf Equipment $39,061 Howard Price Turf $43,700 Golden Bear Equipment $46,481 This will replace an old Ford 3600 which has not worked since May. This will be sold at auction. You may remember we requested a waiver of the normal bidding rules at the June 1, 1987 City Council meeting to replace the Ford 3600 with a used piece of equipment. This used mower was used this summer, but never met expectations. Because we felt the used mower was not in acceptable condition, we did not purchase it. A copy of the June 1st City Council communication is attached. The mower is budgeted in the 1987-88 Vehicle/Equipment Replacement Fund at SAl,O00.00. There will be no additional budget appropriation needed. Bob Ledendecker Dan Hartman Director of Public Works/City Engineer Field Services Manager AGEND - Inter- Com DATE: MAY 26, 198/ TO: WILLIAM IIUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARll~ENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF FORD TRACTOR MOWER RECOMMENDATION: Replace the Ford tractor and Gang Reel mower with a Hydro-Power 180. Sell the Ford 3600 mower at auction. BACKGROUND: The City's Ford mower is scheduled for replacement in the 1987-88 Equipment Replacement Program. The mower currently is out of service and needs $5,000 to L $7,000 worth of repairs. This expense can be saved if we replace it now. mower would come with a six (5) month warranty. ~e would like to waive the normal bidding rules and purchase this mower. There are two reasons why we should do thls. First, the time required to bid will cause expense. Either $5,000 to $7,000 will need to be spent fixtng the Ford, or 16 additional man hour~ a ~eek will be spent mowing with the smal~e, mowers. Secondly, we ha~e found a good piece of used equipment wttha warranty, A new mower will cost around $40,000. We would like to take advantage of the used . equipment and not bid. Funding for this proposed purchase has been established through the Vehicle/Equipment Replacement fund. The one month acceleration for the purchase of thls vehicle will not impact the Replacement fund due to the scheduled routine replacement period being set in 1987-88. No additional budget appropriation will be required. Bob Ledendecker Dan Hartman Director of Public Works/City Engineer Field Services Manager - BL:DH:jln
