TRAFFIC SIGNAL RECOMMENDATION: That the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency, at their meeting of November 18, 1985, authorize a supplemental budget appropriation in the amount of $41,500.00 for a traffic signal installation at Newport Avenue and Sixth Street/Walnut Street. BACKGROUND: Carver Development Co. is the developer for the parcels of land along the westerly side of Newport Avenue between Main Street and E1Camino Real. These parcels are being developed as a commercial type development between Main Street and Sixth Street and as an office development between Sixth Street and E1Camino Real. The Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency has obligated itself to participate in certain public street improvements along Newport Avenue, Main Street, Sixth Street and E1 Camino Real. DISCUSSION: A condition of approval of this development was the requirement for the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Newport Avenue and Sixth Street wherein the development would be responsible for fifty percent (50%) and the City would be responsible for the remaining fifty percent (50%) of the total. estimated cost of $81,000.00. The current 1985-86 Capital'Improvement Budget does not include any funding for this project. The scheduling of public improvements for the Carver development would dictate the design for said signal be commenced as soon as feasible so that the signal installation can be coordinated with the installation of other public improvements sometime in spring of 1986. Staff is requesting that the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency authorize a supplemental $40,500.00 budget appropriation for the 1985-86 fiscal year as the Agency/City share of the traffic signal installation at Newport Avenue and Sixth Street/Walnut Street intersection. Total estimated cost for this installation is $78,000.00 and $3,000.00 for the traffic signal and engineering design respectively. Bob Ledendecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer ~ BL:jr
