Recommendations to Award Bid for Upgrading our Communications
System
On December 2, 1985, City Council passed Resolution 85-121
authorizing the Police Department to advertise proposals for
upgrading the communications system.
Advertisements were published in the Tustin News on December
12 and December 19, 1985. Bids were requested from Modular
Communications Systems, ComCenter Corporation, Motorola
Communications and Electronics;and General Electric
Company.
Two companies responded with offers and bids were publicly
opened and read January 17, 1986.
The following is the company name and bid offering;
1. Motorola Communications and Electronics $168,474.79
2. Modular Communications Systems
$ 99,772.00
Both Companies either meet or exceed our specifications
outlined in our request bids.
I, therefore, recommend Council approve awarding the bid to
Modular Communications Systems for Ninety-nine thousand
seven hundred and seventy-two dollars ($99,772.00).
I further recommend and request Council approve $20,0OO.00
as a contingency sum to cover any incidental modifications,
additions, unforeseen difficulties, etc., not directly or
specifically addressed in our bid request.
It should be noted here that our initial anticipated cost
and request was for One hundred and twenty-five thousand
dollars ($125,000.00). Assuming the total of the
contingency funds are expended i.e. $99,772.00 +
$20,000.00, a total of $119,772.00 will be expended thus
allowing us to come in at completion $5,228.00 less than our
anticipated costl
