HONORABLE I~YOR ,MiD CITY COUNCIL
CoI~qUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
STATUS REPORT CONCERNING ABANDONED RAILROAD SPUR TRACKS FROM THE
INTERSTAll~ 5 FREEWAY 11) MOULTO# PARKWAY
RECOt~ENDED ACTION:
Pleasure of the City Council.
DISCUSSION:
Approximately one year ago the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Rail Company
abandoned its rail spur northerly of Moulton Parkway passing through East Tustin
into the city of Irvine.
City Council at its last meeting requested a status report concerning the future
of this property. With removal of the railroad easement the property has been
returned to ownership of The Irvine Company. This past fall correspondence was
mailed to The Irvine Company requesting a position concerning disposition of
this property. A response to that request from Sandy Pinnell, right of way
coordinator for The Irvine Company is attached to this transmittal. In summary,
no specific plans have been formulated and the Company is merely maintaining the
property in its present condition.
City Council is additionally concerned regarding the dumping of debris and
potentially hazardous materials along this property. Staff again will advise
The 1trine Company to maintain its property and security fence all openings
along Walnut Avenue, Moulton Parkway and Interstate 5. Any additional
directives of City Council may also be included in this correspondence.

Subject: Abandoned Rail Easement
Dear Mr. Lamm,
Your letter of October 24 has been sent to Mr. Chick Willette,
Director of our Builder and Land Sales Division, for action.
The disposal or sale of the easement area in Tustin will be
ultimately handled through his office.
As you know, the Community Development Division has provided
as much assistance and information to the affected homeowner/
neighbors as we have available. The Irvine Company desires to
find a safe, pleasant and economically feasible solution to the
question of ultimate property use, as do those residents and your
jurisdictional staff. Please be assured that we will continue to
make every effort to achieve a satisfactory conclusion to the
proposed plans.
I am available at 720-2362 if you or your staff need any further
information.
Cordially,
