EL CAMINO REAL CHAMPIONSHIP CHILI COOK-OFF -- JUNE 1, 1986
RECOMMENDATION:
Appropriate $2,000 from the General Fund as seed money for the 1986 E1Camtno
Real Championship Chili Cook-Off. {$2,300 was contributed to General Fund from
past year's Cook-Off.)
BACKGROUND:
Our Second Annual E1Camtno Real Chili Cook-off was a tremendous success.
Thousands of local residents sampled a variety of fiery chili and enjoyed top
quality western music in the historic heart of Tustin. $4,200 was contributed
to C.O.P.E.S. (Child or Parental Emergency Services), a non-profit parent or
child emergency service which services the Tusttn area. The event was
completely self-supporting and contributed $2,300 to the General Fund.
Plans for this year's cook-off call for even more cook-off teams. Funds raised
will be contributed to The Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Incorporated.
Local businesses and service clubs will sponsor teams and contribute financially
to help make this event an annual success.
From the $2,300 contributed to last year's General Fund, staff is requesting
that $2,000 be earmarked as seed money for this year's event. Surplus money
from the cook-off would be used to repay the seed money to the General Fund at
the conclusion of this year's event. The seed money will be used for deposits
on equipment, performers, and purchases of equipment necessary for the event.
