WICK, ASSISTANT CITY ENGINEER SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR NEWPORT AVENUE FAU PROJECT M-M016(O02) RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council, at their meeting of April 7, 1986, award the contract for subject project to Steiny and Company Inc. of Fullerton, California, in the amount of $188,714.00. BACKGROUND: Subject project encompasses construction of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Newport and Sycamore and modifications to the signals at Newport Avenue and Walnut, McFadden and Mitchell. In addition, these signals will be interconnected by utilization of a time base coordination system. Sealed bids'for this work were opened at 10:00 a.m. on March 21, 1986 and we6e received as follows: Contractor Business Location Bid Steiny and Co, Inc. Moore Electrical Contracting DBX, Inc. Baxter-Griffin Co. Inc. Fullerton, CA Brea, CA Temeoul a, CA Stanton, CA $188,714.00 189,800.00 202,222.00 730,000.00 The low bid is $5,914.00 or 3.24% over the engineer's estimate of $182,800.00. This is a Federal Aid Urba6 Project and the City and Federal share of this project is as tabulated below: Cost Based on Low Bid *Budgeted Amount Federal Funds $162,295.00 City Funds 26,419.00 Totals - $188 714 O0 $201,200.00 32,800.00 $234,000.00 *Budgeted amount also includes design and construction engineering costs of which $10,000.00 has been expended to date for design engineering. The contractor has met all Federal requirements and CalTrans has given the City authorization to award the contract to Steiny and Company Inc.
