Februar,¥ 6, 1~86 -- ~'~y wife and I left on a trip. ilo one re.~ained in the house d~ri.E our absence. Febl~aw¥ 15. 1986 (Saturda~)~ We returned home mid-afternoon t~is date. So..e t£~e during our absence the ma~ water lille between the meter (curb-side) and the ~ouse had ruptured. A large area of t~e back lawn was flooded and water was seeping under the slao foundation of the house. The water was i~- mediately turned offf. at t~e ~eter and a contractor, 'who has wcrked for me n~.~erous ti~es in the past, was called. Due to the urg~:~cy of the situation and ~,e fact that it was a weekend no attempt was made to get mere than one estimate for repairs. ~range~e:,ts were made for work to be done .February 17th. February 17, 1~86 ~ installation of the new water line (51') fro~ meter to house was completed this date. ~e old line, not being in direct line,meter_~o house, was left in the ground rather than go to the expense of digging a second trench tc remove it. A~lso water line supplyi~ the front lawn sprinkler system had to be cut since it interferred with locating the new main line. The sprinkler control assembly re~mins in the same location and was reconnected to a hose faucet already in place at the front of the house. When the original estimate was .ade the requirement to reroute the water supply to the front lawn spri~,~er system could not be foreseen.
