HomeMy WebLinkAboutNB 3 STREET IMPROV'S 04-01-85NEW BUSINESS NO. 3 4-1-85 TO: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: SUI~JECT: BOB LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY' ENGINEER AWARD OF BID - STREET IMPROVEMENTS AT THE NORTNWESTEREY CORNER OF NEWPORT AVENUE AND IRVINE BOULEVARD RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Tustin City Council, at their meeting of April 1, 1985, award the centract for the street improvements at the northwesterly corner of Newport Avenue and Irvine Boulevard to the low bidder, Arm and Hammer Concrete of Tustin, in the amount of $8,004.59. BACKGROUND: At their March 4, 1985 meeting, the City Council authorized the advertisement of bids for street improvements at the northwesterly corner of Newport Avenue and Irvine Boulevard. This project includes the construction of missing street improvements consisting of sidewalk, curb/gutter and street pavement. DISCUSSION: Bids were opened on March 4, 1985 at 11:00 A.M. and are recapped as follows: Firm Bid Amount Arm and Hammer Concrete of Tustin .................. $ 8,004.59' Hardy and Harper Inc.' of Santa Ana ---~ ............. 9,895.11 Harper Construction Co. of Running Springs ......... 10,203.20 Sully Miller Contracting Co. of Orange ............. 13,164.80 Ultimo General Contractor of Dana Point ............ 13,330.40 R.J..Noble Co. of Orange ........................... 14,562.00 The engineer's estimate is $8,709.00. The low bid is 8.1% below the engineer's estimate. A concurrent action will be requested for the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency to appropriate $8,500.00 for this project.
