1985 EL CAMINO REAL CHAMPIONSHIP CHILI COOK-OFF
RECOMMENDATION:
Appropriate $1,000 from the general fund as seed money for the 1985 E1Camino
Real Championship Chili Cook-Off.
BACKGROUND:
Last year's First Annual E1 Camino Real Championship Chili Cook-Off was a
tremendous success. Thousands of local residents sampled lots of fiery chili
and enjoyed top quality western music in the historic heart of Tustin. $2500
was contributed to A.T.S.C., a non-profit counseling and delinquency prevention
program working closely with our Police Department. The event was completely
self-supporting and contributed $1,091 to the general fund.
Plans for this year's cook-off call for even more cook-off teams. Funds raised
from the event will be contributed to COPES, INC., a child abuse and battery
prevention program. Local businesses and service clubs will sponsor teams and
contribute financially to help make the event a success.
Staff is requesting that the $1,000 contributed to last year's general fund by
the cook-off be earmarked as seed money for this year's event. Surplus money
from the cook-off would be used to repay the seed money to the general fund at
the conclusion of this year's event. The seed money will be used for deposits
on equipment, performers and advance purchases necessary for the event.
