CONCERTS IN THE PARK
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
The Community Services Department with the support of local businesses, has
organized a series of "free" concerts scheduled for July and August. The
concerts'will be held at Peppertree Park on July 24, July 31, August 7, and
August 14 at 6:45 p.m. The public will be invited to join us for a twilight
concert with their family and friends. Daylights savings time will insure that
enough light will be available for performers and audience, too!
The first concert on July 24 will feature "Western Union", the band featured
at our E1 Camino Real Championship Chili Cook-Off. All of your favorite
country western songs will make this a truly enjoyable evening. Big band
music will be featured on July 31 when Howard Reynolds and his Big Band Sounds
perform. Final confirmation is still pending for the Orange Coast College Jazz
Band for August 7 and the United States Harine Corps Band on August 14, for a
patriotic finale to our summer concert series.
Several local businesses have helped make the concerts possible: The Irvine
Company; Healthcare Medical Center, Waste ManagQment, Inc.; McDonald's
Hamburgers, Tustin; and Irvine Ranch Farmers Market. The concerts will be
self-supporting, with no requirement for additional City funds. They will
allow young and old alike to listen to the music of many different generations.
The summer concert series will become a continuing activity if successful
this summer. Additional concerts can be added to the series'as well as lunch
time mini-concerts for those who work in Tustin. The Communi~ty Services
Department is excited about this new program and extends a special invitation
to you and your families to attend.
