WELL PROJECT 05-20-85AGENCY TO: FROM: SUBJECT: WILLIAM HUSTON, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, TUSTIN COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOB LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER COLUMBUS-TUSTIN WELL PROJECT RECOMMENDATION: That the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency, at their meeting of May 20, 1985, authorize a time extension to July 20, 1985 for the Columbus-Tustin Well Project contract. BACKGROUND: In January, 1985, the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency awarded a contract to Caliagua, Inc. for the construction of the Columbus-Tustin Well Project. The award of contract was for the accelerated schedule with a time completion of 100 calendar days. The accelerated time schedule was included as an alternate bid item at an additional cost of $3,000.00. DISCUSSION: The contractor-has implemented this contract on the accelerated schedule and will complete all required work prior to May 31, 1985 (the contract completion date) with one exception. This exception is the pump motor which is being supplied by the General Electric Company. Correspondence has been received from General Electric that the motor will not be available for shipment until July 5, 1985. The contractor anticipates seven days for shipping and one week or less for final installation and turn-on. It is my understanding that after the motor was ordered by the contractor in February, 1985, that General Electric relocated its plant facilities from San Jose, California to Tennessee. This relocation of plant facilities resulted in the current delay for delivery of the motor. This unit is a special order high ener~ty efficient motor which is not a shelf stocked item. General Electric has indicated that they will attempt to accelerate the shipping date if at all feasible. MAY 14, 1985 PAGE 2 The contractor, Caliagua Inc., will have all other work completed on this project prior to May 31, 1985. They have indicated that the motor installation can be completed in no more than 2-3 days once it has been made available from the manufacturer. Based upon the above information, Caliagua Inc. is requesting a time extension on the subject contract until July 20, 1985. Staff has reviewed the circumstances of this request and request that the Agency grant said time extension. Bob Ledendecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer BL:jr cc: Earl Rowenhorst
