HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1960 01 18 MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE TUSTIN CITY COUNCIL, JANUARY 18, 1960 MEMBERS PRESENT: Kidd, Tadlock, Mumeston, Bacon & Byrd. ABSENT : None. CITY ATTORNEY : Dennis D. Hayden, present. CITY ENGINEER : J. L. McBride, present. Mayor Kidd called the meeting to order at 7:30 P. M. The minutes were approved as mailed, on motion of Council- man Byrd, seconded by Councilman Bacon and duly carried. PERMISSION An application by the Orange County Society for Crippled TO SELL, Children and Adults for permission to sell paper lapel GIVEN TO lillies in Tustin on April 8th and 9th, 1960 was approved, SOCIETY on motion of Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman CRIPPLED Humeston. CHILDREN City Engineer McBride informed the Council that the REMOVAL owner of the vacant lot at the corner of Laguna Road and. OF BOTTLE D Street had contracted to remove the Bottle trees on the TREES premises and that it was possible the process could be hazardous to traffic. HOLD UP ON It was moved by Councilman Byrd seconded by Councilman BUSINESS Bacon, that the issuance of a Business License be held LICENSE up pending the submission of satisfactory evidence, that the operation is covered by sufficient Liability Insurance. Motion carried. RESIGNATION Councilman Byrd moved, seconded by Councilman Humeston FROM GREG- that the resignation of Mrs. Sidney Gregory from the ORY ON Planning Commission be accepted and that the clerk write PLANNING her a letter of appreciation on behalf of the Council. COMMISSION Motion carried. APPT. OF It was moved by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman WM GRAY TO Byrd that RESOLUTION NO. 496 appointing Mr. William H. PLANNING Gray, 18562 E. Grammercy Dr. Santa Ana, California to the COMMISSION Tustin Planning Commission for the unexpired term of Mrs. Sidney Gregory, be adopted. Motion carried, all Council- men voting Aye. MODIFICA- The matter of modifying the contract with the Holthe TION ON Disposal Co. to conform to a request by them limiting the HOLTHE amount of trash to four containers not exceeding fifty CONTRACT pounds, for each water meter subscribers, was again discussed by the Council. Councilman Byrd moved, seconded by Councilman Bacon that the City Attorney be instructed to so modify the existing contract with the Holthe Disposal Co., as per their letter of December 21st, 1960. Motion carried. RESOLUTION It was moved by Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman N0.497 Humeston that RESOLUTION NO. 497, "A RESOLUTION OF THE COVERING CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN REQUESTING THE BOARD MUNICIPAL OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO PERMIT THE ELECTION COUNTY CLERK OF SAID COUNTY TO RENDER SPECIFIED SERVICES TO THE CITY OF TUSTIN RELATING TO THE CONDUCT OF A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON APRIL 12, 1960", be adopted. Motion carried. All Councilmen voting Aye. 142 Councilman Bacon moved, seconded by Councilman Tadlock that RESOLUTION NO. 498, calling a Municipal election, Tuesday the 12th day of April 1960, be adopted. Motion carried, all Councilmen voting Aye. The Revere House and the Holiday Cafe requested a renewal of their dance permits for the. current year. RENEWAL Councilman Byrd moved, seconded by Councilman Bacon that the OF DANCE permit for the Revere House be renewed as requested. PERMIT Motion carried. HOLD UP Councilman Humeston moved, seconded by Councilman Bacon ON PERMIT that renewal for the Holiday Cafe be held up pending further FOR HOLI- investigation by the Police Department. Motion carried. DAY. A request by the Signal Cafe on Newport Avenye for a Dance HOLD -UP Permit was referred for further study and recommendation FOR SIGNAL to the Fire Chief and the Police Department, on motion ON PERMIT of Councilman Humeston, seconded by Councilman Byrd and duly carried. LETTER OF A letter of resignation by Chief of Police Johansen was RESIGNATION presented to the Council by Police Commissioner W. L. Tadlock FROM CHIEF and it was moved by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Council- JOHANSEN man Byrd that it be accepted, effective immediately, With ACCEPTED pay to and including January 18, 1960 and additional pay to BY COUNCIL include 15 days vacation and 15 days sick leave. Motion carried. SISSEL Councilman Tadlock moved, seconded by Councilman Humeston APP'T, ACT- that Sergeant Glenn V. Sissel be appointed temporary Acting ING CHIEF Police Chief, effective immediately. Motion carried. APPLICA- Councilman Tadlock moved, seconded by Councilman Humeston TIONS TO that applications for the positions of Chief of Police BE ACCEPTED and Patrolman be accepted. Motion carried. The bills were ordered paid on motion of Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman Byrd and duly carried.
