AWARD OF BID - IRRIGATION, LANDSCAPE AND RELATED IMPROVEMENTS AT
COLUMBUS-TUSTIN PARK PHASE I - (FILE #1681A)
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tustin City Council, at their meeting of July 1, 1985, award the contract
for the subject park improvements to Hondo Company, Inc. of Santa Ana in the
amount of $134,919.15.
BACKGROUND:
In May, 1985, the City Council authorized the advertisement of bids for
irrigation, landscape and related improvements at Columbus-Tustin Park. These
i mproven~nts will include landscaping and irrigation systems on the northerly side
of Beneta Way and in the vicinity of the new Columbus-Tustin well. These
improvements will also include sidewalks along the northerly side of Beneta Way
and the easterly side of Prospect Avenue, and street lighting along Beneta Way.
DISCUSSION:
Bids for the subject project were opened on June 18, 1985 at 9:00 a.m. and were
received as follows:
Honda Company, Inc., Santa Ana .................................... $134,919.15
Ultimo, General Contractors, Dana Point ........................... 158,397.32
Valleycrest Landscape, Santa Ana .................................. 168,002.35
Artistic Landscape, South Gate .................................... 172,699.15
C and B Engineering, Los Angeles .................................. 205,272.50
Taylor-Shafer, Inc., Long Beach ................................... 206,544.00
The low bid is 25.3% below the Engineer's estimate of $180,545.00.
Attached, for the City Council's information, is a tabulation of all bids
received.
In addition to the subject contract, an additional amount ($4,000.O0)~will be
required as payment.to the Edison Company for street light installation. This
will increase the total project cost to approximately $139,000.00.
