HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1959 06 01 MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE TUSTIN CITY COUNCIL, JUNE 1st, 1959 COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Kidd, Tadlock, Humeston, Bacon & Byrd. ABSENT : None. CITY ATTORNEY. : Dennis D. Hayden, present. CITY ENGINEER : J. L. McBride, present. Mayor Kidd called the meeting to order at 7:30 P. M. Motion by Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman Tadlock that the minutes of the last meeting be be approved as mailed. Motion carried. Mayor Kidd, by Proclamation, declared June to be Apprenticeship Month. LEGION Remel Flud was present and requested that Tustin PERMISSION Post No. 227 of the American Legion, be granted ON FIREWORKS permission to sell fireworks again at the corner of Second and D Streets. It was moved by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Humeston that the above request be granted, subject to same conditions as in previous years and also to approval of Police and Fire De- partments. Motion carried. PROJECT WORK City Engineer McBride reported that the stumps ON PROSPECT along Prospect Avenue should be removed and also AVENUE & that the culvert at Lockwood Park & Prospect Avenue LOCKWOOD PK should beremoved and the grade corrected. PLACE Councilman Tadlock moved, seconded by Councilman A. E. FOWLER Humeston, that Engineer McBride be authorized to EMPLOYED employ A. E. Fowler & Sons to remove the thirteen ON REMOVAL stumps andlfill the holes along Prospect Avenue, and to have. the culvert removed and a dip constructed to his specifications at Lockwood Park and Prospect Avenue; cost not to exceed $1500.00 Motion carried. CITY PLAN City Engineer McBride also submitted a plan for FOR CHANGE- office space in the front room of the City Hall OVER ON for the Police Department and the City Engineer, OFFICES which included the opening of a doorway into the present room used by the Police Department. Motion of Councilman Tadlock , seconded by Council- TOP TO BE man Humeston that the City Clerk be authorized to $300.00 purchase material and engage labor for the above improvement at a cost not to exceed $300.00. Motion carried. APP'T WITH Engineer McBride also informed the Council that FORD OF DIV. C. W. Ford, Design Engineer for the State Division OF HIGHWAYS of Highways would be in Tustin City Hall on June 4, 1959 at l:00 P. M. to answer questions regarding the Freeways. Motion of Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman Tadlock that RESOLUTION NO. 473, designating Major 100 City Streets, be adopted. Motion carried, all Councilmen voting Aye. IRA MAR- Councilman Bacon moved, seconded by Councilman CHANT TO Tadlock that ORDINANCE NO. 124, annexing the HAVE 2nd "Ira L. Marchant Annexation No. 2" have its READING second reading by Title only. Motion carried, all Councilmen voting Aye. ADOPTION OF It was moved by C~un~ilman Humeston, seconded ORD. # 124 by Councilman Bacon that ORDINANCE NO. 124 be adopted. Motion carried, all Councilmen voting Aye. MINUTE Councilman Tadlock moved, seconded by Councilman ORDER ON Byrd that the City Clerk be authorized to make FOUNTAIN the necessary expenditures to either repair the old drinking fountain or have a new one installed. Motion carried. Councilman Byrd moved, seconded by Councilman HEARING Tadlock that the City Clerk have notices published, ON SETBACK calling a hearing before the City Council June FOR JUNE 15, 1959 at 7:45 P. CHANGE OF RESOLUTION NO. 521 from the Tustin Planning Comm- ZONE ON ission was also read, recommending that zoning , BECKER & of the Becker and Hilton property South of First HILTON PROP. It was moved by Councilman Byrd, seconded by Coucil- man Humeston that the City Clerk be authorized to PUBLISHED publish a notice calling a hearing before the City NOTICE ON Council, June 15, 1959 at 8:15 P. Motion of Comncilman Tadlock, seconded by Council- CIVIL man Bacon that RESOLUTION NO. 470, establishing a Workmen's Compensation Insurance for Registered DEFENSE Volunteer Workers, be adopted. Motion carried, all Councilmen voting Aye. APP'T OF Councilman Tadlock moved, seconded by Council- RALPH MITCHEL man Humeston that RESOLUTION NO. 472, appointing ON PLANNING Ralph Jo Mitchell to serve on the Tustin Planning COMMISSION. Commission, be adopted. Motion carried, all Councilmen voting Aye. THANK YOU It was moved by Councilman Humeston, seconded by TO DR. Councilmen Tadlock, that the City Clerk write a STANTON. letter of appreciation to Dr. Harlan M. Stanton " for his services on the Planning Commission. Motion carried. REQUEST BY Mayor Kidd requested permission to leave the State KIDD FOR from June 4, 1959 to August 17, 1959. LEAVE OF ABSENCE. On motion of Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Bacon and carried, Mayor Kidd's request for leave of absence was granted. EMPLOY- It was moved by Councilman Tadlock, seconded MENT by Councilman Bacon that City Engineer McBride OF TREE be authorized to employ the California Tree SERVICE. Service to trim and remove trees within the city, pursuant to their proposal, at a cost not to exceed $1130.00. Motion carried. Motion of Councilman. Humeston, seconded by Councilman Byrd and carried, the bills were ordered paid.
