An amount of $174,000.00 has currently been accumulated in the City of Tustin Rule 20A account. Rule 20A funding is 100% Edison Company cost. Staff has received a verbal reply from the Edison Company in which they recommend against the undergrounding of the facilities along Redhill Avenue at this time. It appears that this recommendation is based upon the economics of the project where the cost per foot of undergrounding is extensive due to the facilities that would be required and the revamping of the adjacent/remaining overhead systems. In lieu of the Redhill project, staff is currently investigating the following project with the Edison Company staff. ° Undergrounding along Newport Ave. (both sides) from northerly of Bryan Avenue to Wass Street. This project would tie into the two previous projects completed by both the County of Orange and the City and will provide underground utilities along Newport Avenue between the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) and. Seventeenth St. Additionally, this Newport Avenue project would tie into the joint undergrounding effort by the developer, Burnett-Ehltne, and the Redevelopment Agency along both Irvine Blvd. between Holt Ave. and Newport Ave., and Holt Ave. between Irvine Blvd. and Newport Ave. Depending upon the outcome of the cost estimates for this work along Newport Ave., staff will be presenting an action item in the future to revise the Rule 20A funding from Redhill Ave. to Newport Ave. No action is required by the City Council at this time.
