HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1959 02 16 MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE TUSTIN CITY COUNCIL, FEBRUARY 16, 1959 · COUNCIL PRESENT: Kidd, Tadlock, Humeston, Bacon & Byrd. ABSENT : None. CITY ATTORNEY : Dennis D. Hayden, present. CITY ENGINEER : J. L. McBride, absent. Mayor Kidd called the meeting to order at 7:35 P. M. On motion of councilman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Humeston and carried, minutes of the last meeting were approved as mailed. CORRECTIONS A letter from Gilbert A. McKinzie, City Building FOR K.P. Inspector, was read, calling attention to various BUILDING. things which in his opinion should be done, to make the basement of the Knights of Pythias building a safe place in which to hold Boy Scout meetings. LETTER TO It was moved by Councilman Humeston, seconded by Council- BE FORWARD- man Bacon, that a copy of the letter be forwarded to ED. the building committee of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. Motion carried. RE*ZONING The hearing on re-zoning the Len H. Darling property ON THE LEN. on Nisson Road, from C-2 to R-3 was opened by Mayor .H. DARLING Kidd. There being no one present desiring to speak PROPERTY for or against said zoning, it was moved by Council- man Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Bacon that the hearing be closed. Motion carried. ORD. 121. On motion of Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Council- FIRST READ* man Byrd, that ORDINANCE NO. 121 have its first read- ING. ing by title only. Motion carried, all councilmen voting Aye. RESOLUTION It was moved by Councilman Humeston, seconded by NO. 517. Councilman Tadlock, that the recommendation in PUBLIC RESOLUTION NO. 517 by the Tustin Planning Commission HEARING be approved, and that a Public hearing on proposed 0N' PR0P0SED zoning to R-1, of the property in the Tustin Union ZONING. High School Annexation, be called for March 2nd, 1959 at 7:45 p. m. in the Council Chamber. Motion carried. BIDS FOR Bids for a heating system for the City Hall building A HEATING were presented from the American Sheet Metal Co. SYSTEM, for $1184.00 and from the "Louie" Schmetzer Co. for AWARDED $1035.00 SCHMETZER CO. Motion of Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman Humeston that the bid from the Louie Schmetzer Co. CONDITIONS be accepted on condition that galvanized metal air RE: THE ducts be used and that they be installed with the INSTALLATION maximum width next to the ceiling in the hallway and all other exposed areas. Motion carried. PUBLIC It was moved by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by HEARING Councilman Bacon that a public hearing before the FOR MARCH Tustin City Council for zoning the proposed Marchant ANT ANNEX. Annexation be called for 8:00 P. M., March 16th, 1959. Motion carried. RESOLUTION RESOLUTIONNO. 459, commending Ralph Lindsay for COMMENDING his 9 years of service as Fire Chief, was adopted SERVICES OF on Motion of Councilman Tadlock, seconded by LINDSAY. Councilman Bacon. All Councilmen voting Aye. Councilman Bacon reported that he had made in- spection of the Elm trees on North A Street and that in his opinion any nuisance value they may have had in the past, would rapidly decrease as they get older, and that they would become a real asset to the street· DECISION It was moved by Councilman Bacon, seconded by MADE NOT TO Councilman Byrd, that the trees on North A Street th REMOVE ELMS not be removed, as requested in a petition signed ON NO. A by some of the property owners and presented at the Council meeting of February 2nd, 1959. Motion carried. The City Clerk was instructed to so inform the person presenting the petition. BIDS ON NEW Bids from Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge agencies on a a POLICE CAR. new police car were opened, and it was moved by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Humeston that the Police Department be authorized to purchase a 1959 Dodge as per specifications presented for $1846.77 net after trade-in of the 1956 Ford, from the L. D. Coffing Co. of Santa Ana, Calif., conditional, that equipment change-over be included in the above price. Motion carried. SO. CALIF. It was moved by Councilman Byrd, seconded by EDISON CO. Councilman Bacon that the Orange County Board of AUTHORiZED Supervisors be requested to authorize the Southern TO INSTALL California Edison Co. to install 20,000 Lumen Mercury VAPOR LAMPS Vapor lamps at the corner of First and D Streets and the intersection of Main and D Street, because the lamps now in use are obsolete.
