HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC 11 TREE REMOVAL 08-06-84AGEN O~TE: JULY 31, 1984 CONSENT CALENDAR NOo 11 8-6-84 lnter'-Com $ U~J ECT: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER BOB LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CII~ ENGINEER REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVAL - 1891 SANDWOOD PLACE RECOMMENDATION: That the Tusttn City Council, at their meeting of August 6, 1984, authorize the removal of three street trees adjacent to 1891Sandwood Place per Case I of the current City Policy and replace them with three 15 gallon size trees of'the type previously utilized on Sandwood Place and Cloverdale Drive and on the approved tree list. BACKGROUND: The Earl family of 1891 Sandwood Place has requested the removal of three Rusty Leaf Fig (Ficus Rubiginosa) trees from the parkway adjacent to their residence. In July, 1978, Council adopted a policy on tree removal and replacement as follows: Case I Problem tree (City approved) causing present or future damage to curbs and sidewalks. City removes tree and replaces it with a 15 gallon size tree at City expense. Case II - Undesirable tree (City approved) due to extensive litter or other problems. City removes tree at City expense and replaces it at property owners expense for labor, materials and tree. Case III - Unapproved tree (not of a problem or desirable species). City removal and replacement at full cost to property owner. DISCUSSION: The Allen tree falls into Case I of the current City Policy and involves three trees, one tree in front of the residence on Sandwood Place and two trees on Cloverbrook adjacent to the sideyard of the residence. JULY 31, 1984 PAGE 2 The root system of these trees are on the ground surface within the lawn area and are a potential cause of sidewalk displacement. Staff suggests that all three trees adjacent to 1891Sandwood Place be removed and replaced with three 15 gallon size trees of the type previously utilized on Sandbrook and Cloverdale and on the City approved list. ~d~ecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer BL:jr
