LAMM, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL TO REPLACE CITY WISHING WELL ENTRANCE SIGNS DISCUSSION The City presently maintains three wishing well "WelCome to Tustin" signs along the westerly entrances to the City on Seventeenth Street, Irvine Boulevard and First Street. These wishing wells have become landmarks readily identifying the boundary between Santa Ana and Tustin. However, a close comparison of each sign reveals that all three have different type styles and finish colors. Staff believes promoting a positive community image is an integral part of attracting new business and maintaining the high quality of living for which Tustin is famous. In an effort to improve the appearance of our community, staff contacted a local sign manufacturer to obtain a graphic proposal of staff's ideas. Mr. Michael E. Hill was very appreciative of the opportunity to create new identification signs for the City. At his own expense, he has submi%~ed a color rendering and scale replica of a replacement sign which could easily be installed in the wishing well structures. Mr. Hill has also included in his proposal, the refurbishment of each wishing well which would include restaining and installation of architectural treatments to improve their structural appearance. The replacement signs are manufactured through a process of sand blasting heavy wood timbers to produce a three dimensional appearance. The raised letters, City Seal and border trim are painted in contrasting colors to the background color producing a very attractive sign. The scale replica and sign rendering will be available at the June 18th Council meeting for your inspection. A slide presentation will also be presented should the Council so desire. RECOI~MENDATION Authorize staff to obtain competitive bids and expend a maximum of $5,000'from the Beautification Fund to replace three City entrance signs. Director of Community Development DL:do
