Huston, City Manager Jeff Kolin, Recreation Superintendent REPORT ON 40 PLUS ADULT SOFTBALL LEAGUE FEES RECOMMENDATIONS: Pleasure of the Council/Available Alternatives 1. Increase the number of games and the quality of awards while maintain- ing league fee of $225. 2. Reduce league fee and keep the same number of games~and awards. 3. Maintain reduced fee of $225o for 40 PLUS Softball. BACKGROUND: On April 24 the.managers of five out of six 40 Years Plus Softball teams met with the Sports Division staff to discuss various details of the upcoming Summer League. The staff proposal for the Summer League was identical to that of the recently concluded Spring League with fees of $225 per team. This fee covers awards, officials, equipment, field preparation, league supervision and administration. However, the managers voiced concerns about the proposed $225 fee. They are requesting six additional games and up- graded awards for the same $225 fee. It should be noted that this league has been charged a reduced fee in view of non-prime time, no need for lights, and to promote a new program that is the only one of its kind in Orange County. It should be equally noted that due to the developing nature of the program, it requires almost double the amount of supervisory time as that of a regular night league. To be specific, much more time is spent at the site on Sundays and additional time.is spent in the formation of teams, securing managers, arranging fields for practice, et cetera. It is anticipated that this extra time will be reduced to normal standards within a one year period. REPORT ON 40 PLUS AL Page 2 May 2, 1984 F SOFTBALL LEAGUE FEES SUMMARY: The teams are requesting six extra games and upgraded awards that will add an additional $138 to the actual operating costs. This represents $23 per team (6 teams in league). Jef~ Rec~tio~f Superintendent JK:ls cc: Steve Blankenhorn Russ Churchman
