HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PATRICK SANCHEZ, DIRECTOR, PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES TUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL TILLER TRICK OR TREAT REQUEST SUMMARY: The Associated Student Body at Tustin High School is seeking a contribution of $2,500 to cover the cost of implementing the "Tiller Trick or Treat" event on October 31, 2003. FISCAL IMPACT: The Tustin High School Associated Student Body is requesting the City Council appropriate $2,500 from the Community Promotions Account (01-801-6906) to cover the cost of candy and decorations for the "Tiller Trick or Treat" event. BACKGROUND: The "Tiller Trick or Treat" event offers a safe Halloween experience to children attending Thorman, Estock, Veeh, Nelson, Lambert, Beswick and Benson Elementary Schools. Attendance at the 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 events totaled over 1,200 children each. The City Council in the past has granted allocations of $2,000 in 1996 and 1997, and $2,500 in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. Tustin High School students are responsible for implementing the evening's program, which leads children on a trick or treat journey through many of the classrooms at Tustin High. In the Halloween theme, each classroom is creatively decorated, and all children who enter receive a special treat (candy). Amanda Brink and Amy Mendelssohn, representing the Associated Student Body, will be in attendance at the September 15, 2003 City Council meeting to answer any questions. A letter from Tustin High School specifying their request is attached. In the past you have generously donated $2,500.00 and without your help, the Tiller Trick or Treat program would not be such a great success for our community's children. Last year over 2000 Tustin youngsters enjoyed a safe, fun-filled evening on the Tustin High campus and we anticipate even more kids this year. Please consider supporting this community program again. Thank you for your support. Sincerely, THS Community Service Commissioner Amy Mefidelson, Dean, THS
