HOMEOWNER REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVAL
RECOMMENDATION:
That the tree, at 14452 Cloverbrook Avenue, be removed under the provisions of
Case II of the current City Tree Removal Policy.
BACKGROUND:
JoAnn Stromeier of 14452 Cloverbrook requests the City to remove her parkway
tree. She states the tree is competing for space with one of her private trees
and the tree is messy and drops leaves.
Mrs. Stromeier's tree falls under Case II of the City's current tree policy which
states:
When a tree Is undesirable due to extensive litter or other problems, the
City will remove the tree at City expense and replace It at the property
owners expense for labor, materials and a tree from the approved tree list.
She has indicated that she destres no tree of any kind in the parkway.
DISCUSSION:
The tree is a Cinnamon Camphor, number three on the City approved list. Camphors
are a very nice tree, slow growing with a very good root system. They are
evergreen not deciduous as Mrs. Stromeier suggested in her letter. The tree
shows no sign of damage to the concrete around it.
From looking at Mrs. Stromeiers property, it is evident she likes trees, but not
the parkway tree.

has requested the City to remove the parkwaY tree in front
of her residence.
Since the removal of this large tree would effect the environ-
ment in which you live, we solict your co~ments.
If you object to the removal please resp6nd in writing. If we
do not hear from youwithin ten {10) days of receipt of this
letter, we will assume you have no objections.

Dear JoAnn:
I came by an looked at your tree and took some photographs. Your parkway
tree is a CinnamomumCamphor a very nice tree although slo~ g~owtng, it
is an evergreen and has an excellent mot system.
I cannot see any harm the Camphor tree is to your ~e. rgreen~b~ldd~tt
nor do I think it ever will be.
The City has a policy whereas a homeonwer can get an approved tree
removed from the parkway for reasons of Just not liking the tree, elther
it is too tall, short, don't like the looks, etc. The homeowner can
request the City to removethe tree, grind out the stump at City. expense
provided the homeowner will pay for a replacement tree chosen by. them
from the City approved list, plus the cost of planting and labor and
materials.
Of course it is not practical to plant a tree of the present ones size,
however, the City would expect to replace it with at least a 24 ' 30
inch box size.
The cost of purchasing a tree of this size varies depending on the kind
of tree chosen but generallyspeaking ~t would cost $175.00 to $225.00
wholesale price.
Please find enclosed a City approved tree list plus a copy. of the Ordinance.
When you decide on the kind of tree you wish, I can give you an exact
figure at that time. Please make the check payable to the City of Tusttn.
