HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1957 05 13288: MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE TUSTIN CITY COUNCIL, MONDAY MAY 13, 1957 COUNCILNEN PRESENT: Kidd, Tadlock, Humeston, Bacon & Byrd. ABSENT: None. CITY ATTORNEY: C. Arthur Nisson, Jr. present. Mayor Kidd called the meeting to order at 7:35 P. M. Motion by Councilman Humeston, seconded by Councilman Tadlock, that the minutes be approved as mailed out. Motion carried. PETITION OF Reverend Karl Christ appeared before the Council and requested REV. CHRIST permission for the Chairman of the Tustin Community Welfare FOR 2 MEMBERS fund to appoint two additional members to the existing committee. FOR WELFARE On motion by Councilman Humeston, seconded by Councilman Tadlock and duly carried, permission was granted the Chairman GRANTED of the Tustin Community Welfare Fund to aopoint two additional members as desired. CHART Mr. Ed Mitchell, Chairman of the Civic Affairs Committee ON SALARY of the Tustin Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Council COMPARISON with charts and other information showing a comparison between the pay of Tustin City employee's and other municipalities in Orange County. Motion by Councilman Humeston, seconded by Councilman Tadlock that Mr. Mitchell convey the thanks and appreciation of the Council to the Chamber of Commerce. Motion carried. CULVERT Motion by Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman Byrd that REPAIR City Engineer McBride be authorized to have a culvert on Main Street and Pacific Avenue repaired on a cost-plus basis. Motion carried. SPECIAL GAS On motion of Councilman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Tadlock TAX IMPROVE and carried, the City Clerk was authorized to advise the MENT FUND Division of Highways that the City of Tustin wishes to accumulate Special Gas Tax improvement Funds, accruing to the City of the fiscal year 1957-58, for future budgeting. Motion by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Byrd MACBRIDE that City Engineer McBride be authorized to employ help REPORT in compiling information for the Department of Commerce, PUBLIC Bureau of Public Roads, report. Motion carried. ROADS Motion by Councilman Humeston, seconded by Councilman Byrd FOWLER that Engineer McBride have twelve trees on Prospect Avenue TREE topped by A. E. Fowler & Sons to an approximate height of TOPPING ten feet. Motion carried. Mr. E. B. Aikens, Chairman Building Committee, Tustin Longhouse, Y. M. C. A. appeared before the Council and requested COMMUNITY consideration of the Tustin City Council for permission to CENTER erect a Tustin Community Center on a portion of the land purchased by the city for park purposes. COUNCIL Mayor Kidd appointed the Council, a Committee as a whole, APPOINTED to meet at the park site Tuesday, May 14, 1957 at 6:00 P. M. COMMITTEE and to consider for future action, the proposal by Mr. Aikens. REPEAL OF Motion by Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman Humeston RES. #412 adopted. Notion carried, all Councilmen voting Aye. AWARDING OF Motion by Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman Humeston CONTRACT TO that a contract to pick up Trash and Garbage be awarded the HOLTHE AS Holthe Disposal Service, as of July l, 1957 for $564.00 per OF JULY 1st, month, and that City Attorney Nisson prepare a contract for 1957 one year to be presented at the next Council meeting. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Tadlock PETITION that the Petition from the Board of Trustees of the Tustin OF H.S. High School District, for Annexation to the City of Tustin; ANNEX. be received and filed. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman Humeston that the Orange County Board of Supervisors be petitioned APPROVAL to annex the Tustin High School, as approved by the Orange OF PETIT- County boundary commission, to the City of Tustin; according EON. to the Government Code. Motion carried. APPROVAL Motion by Councilman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Humeston OF HANSON that recommendations of Hanson & Peterson in their letter & PETERSON dated February 13, 1957, regarding budget classification BUDGET for expenditures be approved. Motion carried. CLASSIFI- CATION. Action on the Resignation of Mr. Glenn H. Stiver as Civil Defense Director, was deferred until a sucoessor is available.
