FROH: HUGH WEST - MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT
sumJ(CT: HOMEOWNER REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVAL
RECOMMENDATION:
I reco~nd the request be denied.
BACKGROUND:
Mr. Kamel A. Hanna of 1971 Hampshire Road has an'Indian Laurel tree in the parkway
and has requested the City remove the tree.
He states that birds in the tree make a mess on the sidewalk and on parked
vehicles. The tree drops leaves and his wife and daughter are allergic to the
odor of the bird deposits.
DISCUSSION:
The tree in Mr. Hanna's parkway is an Indian Laurel, healthy, and shows no sign of
sidewalk damage or damage to the curb and gutteP.
The City policy adopted by Council, 7-17-78 states, whereas the homeowner may have
the City remove a parkway tree for reasons of the tree being messy or they just
don't like the tree; provided the homeowner would purchase a new replacement does
not apply in this case, as they do not want a tree at all.
Notification was handed out in the neighborhood. No objections were received.

Dear Mr. West
Based on our telphone conversation to day Feb. 8th. 1984 concerning
the removal of the growing tree in front side of our house.
My name is Kamel A. Hanna home owner living in 1971 Hampshire Rd. Tustin
Meadows area Tustin Ca. Phone # (714) 731 - 7188
Since we moved to our house located in the above address we are facing
major proplems from the huge growing tree in the front side of our house.
The proplems which we are facung are as follows.:
(1) The tree branches are equipied by unlimited number of birds.
These birds drop their deposits on our cars all over coverind
most of their body~ when we park on the side way of the house.
these deposits cause proplems when we drive these cars covered
by dirt and birds deposits.
(2) ~.u the mean time the dry falling leaves from the tree covers our
front yard a~d the side walk way causing an ugly and dirty view of
the house.
(3) The tree also drops most of the time the jucy blooms on the side
walk way in front of the house leaving dirty dark pink spots.
(4) For all the aboye reasons we have troubles parking our cars in front
of our property.
(5) The major proplem and the more important one is my wife and my oldest
daughter, are elergetic from the bad smell of the birds deposits in
our front yard make them cough and sneez all time as soom as they
come closer to the front door or going out or comming in to the house.
That cause health proplems tQ my family.
If possibly this paticuler tree could be removed Fo~ will make us a great
favour for our safy a~d the safty of our neighbours if this tree dameged
by the strong wind and save every body a great loss.
Tkank you very much for your corporation.
