Ordinarily staff issues temporary use permits administratively for banners, etc. for a maximum of 30 days per calendar quarter. However, the unique nature of the Olympic Games is such that merchants wish to display banners through the summer. Such a request may be authorized by the Planning Commission. Discussion On Monday, March 12, 1984, staff recommended to the Planning Commission a blanket temporary use permit for Olympic game related advertising through the end of the summer games in Los Angeles. Businesses displaying a banner and/or temporary signs, must be official sponsors of the games to insure quality of signing. Since staff feels the Sign Ordinance permits temporary advertising for special events such as this, the 1984 Olympic games most certainly deserve this recognition. The Planning Commission unanimously approved staff's recommendations subject to the Director of Community Development issuing individual use permits and determining official sponsors of the Olympic games.
