FROM:
SUBJECT:
HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
MARY E. WYNN, CITY CLERK
DUPLICATE STORAGE OF CITY RECORDS
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of duplicate storage at Metro Business Archives, Los Angeles, CA, of City
Records kept by the City Clerk.
BACKGROUND:
Because of the possibility of destruction of the City's records by earthquake, fire,
vandalism, water damage, or other unforeseen causes, precaution should be taken of
storing duplicate records at an off-site high-security facility.
Metro Business Archives, A Division of Metro Records Managements, Inc., 1340 East
i. xth Street, Los Angeles, California, is one of* the largest exclusive records storage
service companies'in the world, with more than 600,000 cubic feet of records storage.
The 14 inch thick steel and reinforced concrete building was engineered to withstand
earthquakes, and has the highest fire rating available. Floors are divided into
sections, with fire doors between each area.
One hundred and thirteen cartons of hardcopy records or 8 trays of microfiche, or a
combination of both, can be stored for the sum of $25.00 per month or $300.00 per
year. Fees for pick up or retrieval of records is very reasonable. This amount of
storage would be ample for many years for the records in the City Clerk's office.
