HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC 4 TRANS INVEST PLN 02-06-84/~' . 2-6-84 DATE:JANUARY 26, Inter-Corn FROH: S USJ ECT: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER BOB LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR.OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER REQUEST FOR AMENDMENT TO CATEGORY IV - TRANSIT'OF THE ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION FIFTEEN-YEAR TRANSPORTATION INVESTMENT PLAN RECOMMENDATION: In the event the City Council desires to pursue this amendment to Category IV of the Fifteen-Year Transportation Investment Plan, it is recommended that the attached Resolution be passed and adopted and forwarded under the Mayor's signature to the Orange County Transportation Commission and each Orange County City. .BACKGROUND: At their January 23, I984meeting, the Tustin City Council approved the subject Fifteen-Year Transportation Investment Plan and requested staff to prepare a Resolution requesting amendment to said plan that would require voter approval prior to construction of any rapid transit or light rail project to be funded from .said plan. DISCUSSION: The attached Resolution urgently requests that the Category IV, Transit of the Fifteen Year Transportation Investment Plan, be amended as explained above. It is suggested that this Resolution be forwarded to the Orange County Transportation Commission and to each of the Orange County Cities under the Mayor's signature once it has been adopted by the City Council. WHEREAS, the Tustin City Council has approved the Orange County Transportation Commission Fifteen-Year Transportation Investment Plan with reservations concerning the implementation of Category IV - Transit; and WHEREAS, the Fifteen-Year Transportation Investment Plan requires approval of the Alternatives Analysis Studies for the Santa Aha Transportation Corridor by the Urban Mass Transit Administration ~nd the California Transportation Commission; and WHEREAS, the Orange County Transportation Commission will decide on the preferred alternative in the Alternative Analysis of the Santa Aha .Transportation Corridor Study; and WHEREAS, these approvals and decision making processes do not provide for direct response from County taxpayers/voters; NOW,'THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Tustin City Council urgently requests that Category IV - Transit of the Fifteen-Year Transportation Investment Plan be amended to require voter approval prior to construction of any rapid transit or light rail project to be funded from said plan.
