NO. 5

FROM:
SUBJECT:
WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
BOB LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER
REQUEST TO REPLACE VACANC~
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tusttn City Council, at their meeting of February 6, 1984, authorize the
replacement of the vacant Maintenance Worker position within the Public Works
Department.
BACKGROUND:
In April, 1983 a Maintenance Worker position was vacated when Tim Klein resigned
his pgsition with the City. At that time the 1983-84 budget preparation was
underway and the replacement of all vacated positions within the~City was frozen
until such time the budget was adopted or until the Mid-Year Budget Review was
completed.
DISCUSSION:
The Mid-Year Budget Review for the Public Works Department projects a $21,800
surplus through the end of the fiscal year June 30, 1984. This surplus includes
the cost of filling this vacancy between January 1, 1984 and June 30, 1984.
This replacement will place the department back to the manpower level to provide
the level of park maintenance the community has become accustomed too.
Additionally, on February 24, 1984 we will be losing another Maintenance Worker
when Henry Stanzcyk retires from his position with the City. The filling of this
current vacancy at this time will eliminate the department from being down two
Full-Time Maintenance positions.
