SR ADV COUNCIL 2-6-84Bill Huston, City Manager Jeff Kolin, Recreation Superintendent NOMINATION OF RUBY MAYFOR SECOND ?£RM AS A VOTING MEMBER OF THE ORANGE COUNTY SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COUNCIL Recommendations: To direct staff to prepare a letter to the Orange County Division, League of Cities, recommending Ruby May for a second term as a voting member to the Orange County Senior Citizens Advisory Council. 2. Authorize the Mayor to sign this letter. 3. To authorize and encourage Council members to voice their support for Mrs. May to appropriate League officials. BackgrouDd: Ruby May has served as a voting member of the Orange County Senior Citizens- Advisory Council since her appointment in March 1982. Her current term expires on March 12, 1984. The Advisory Council considers projects to be funded from county, state and federal funds which provide benefits for Tustin Senior Adults. As a voting member of the Advisory Council, Mrs. May has represented Tustin and its many senior adults in important deliberations regarding the dispersal of these funds. Ruby May is involved in many facets of our senior citizen service program, as can be evidenced by the attached resume. In addition to serving as a delegate to the Orange County Senior Citizens Advisory Council, she serves on the City of Tustin's Senior Citizen Coordinating Council. Since the group began in November of 1980, staff has had an opportunity to witness Ruby in action. She is conscientious, hardworking, very interested in meeting the needs of our seniors, and always willing to give her time. In April of 1981 Ruby was a delegate to the State House Conference on Aging, and in 1981 she was also elected to the California Senior Legislature as an Assemblywoman. Mrs'. May's vast experience has made her a valuable member of the Advisory Council. She has an excellent chance of being reappointed for a second term as a voting member. The appropriate method for the City to proceed is to nominate Mrs. May in a letter to Executive Director, Orange County Division, California League of Cities. Should the City Council concur with staffs feeling that Ruby May should be reappointed to a second term staff would be delighted to prepare a letter for the Mayor's signature.
